BUPA Dental Health Claim Experience.

This has all now been sorted now but I was just curious to know if my expereince was normal or whether BUPA were being particulaly awkard.

I made a private check up appointment at the dentist. Paid in advance - receipt 1
A week later I went for check up. Also had clean. Needed extraction (paid deposit) - receipt 2
A week after I went for the extraction - receipt 3
Asked for itemised recepit but reception reprinted receipts + a copy of "treatment plan" listing all trreatment and individual cost.
Balance of 3 recepits matches exactly balance shown "in treatrment" plan list.

Copies forwarded to BUPA Dental. A few days later I get a message to call. I ring and they say info not good enough as "they can't tell if treatment has occurred"
I go back to dentist and after a lot of to and fro "we've never had any issue with our receipts before" I get them to email BUPA confirming I have had the treatment.
BUPA accept this

I get this a few times from insurance companies. They want things set out in a pretty specific way sometimes and just till receipts or standard treatment estimates don't always do.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

ok. Even though they could clearly see what treatment I had and matching receipts for that treatment?

Are itemised receipts the norm and the dentist I use is a bit backward with their receipts system???

I think from your first post the issue is you have found a 'Computer says 'no' ' sort of person at BUPA.

You've sent in receipts of payment, and a costed treatment plan. They seem to have wanted something to say the treatment had actually been done though? This isn't something that's usually asked for as most places seem to assume that if they have something that says what treatment is needed, the cost, and have something else saying that that treatment has been paid for - then it's a fair assumption that that treatment has been done!

If you think about it - if this were a fraud and another receipt was put in for the same or very similar treatment on the same teeth - they could refuse that easily having paid for it before!!

So I think the problem is that common sense at BUPA is not that common - not that your dentist has done something wrong!

Maybe they were looking for an invoice for treatment *completed* - and because nothing you'd sent in had that particular word on it - rather than let sense prevail and tick the box, they sent it back until they got their magic word?
