Backdated SIPP contributions for non earning retired person

Q. Can I make backdated SIPP contributions for the previous 3 years if I am a senior / retired with no income?
I am aware that my current year limit is £3600 gross. I have asked AJ Bell and they have said I can’t do it unless I max out my current year £60k allowance, which as a person who is a senior/retired with no income, is not something I am allowed to do … Can anyone spread any clarity please ?

AJ Bell are correct, you have to use all of your current years allowance before being able to use carry forward of the Annual Allowance. Its really only available to high earners or generous employers.1

The simple answer is no.
As a non earner your current £3600 limit is as much as you can add. The past is history as they say.1 -

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
