After ULEZ we now have the added enjoyment of the Mayor of London discontinuing the Day Travelcard for those of us wishing to travel to London for a day out!
I ask myself does thr Mayor want anyone travelling around London and shop owners and businesses benefiting from us. It seems like he doesn't!
I have 3 family members coming over from Spain in Feb and went onto C2C rail to get an idea of the offers available. So it's a group of 4 adults which worked out at roughly £67 for the Day Travelcard....brilliant for us to travel from Essex and be free to jump on any tube or bus around London.
But then I saw an article saying the Mayor will stop that in January 2024 and we will have to pay more for the privilege of seeing all that London has to offer!
My blood boils that Mr Khan is just seeking money for the coffers in any way he can, but will that backfire? I'm so disappointed for my family, one of whom has never been to England and is super excited at the prospect of visiting London. Whilst of course we still wish to spend a day and night in London it sort of ruins the idea when this sort of thing is being done.

Unless you are planning on more than 3 journeys a day for 6 days or more then a travel card is more expensive than using an Oyster card or contactless payments, so what exactly is the problem?chrisinessex01 said:After ULEZ we now have the added enjoyment of the Mayor of London discontinuing the Day Travelcard for those of us wishing to travel to London for a day out!

Each person taps into the tube or Bus using a debit card

 Am I missing something here?0

Depending on the route a Travelcard may not save any money, worth a watch.

The main benefit of them is not needing an Oyster or contactless payment method for everyone.1

Am I missing something here?- Travelcards (combined into a train ticket) can be discounted with a railcard. Contactless cannot; some railcards can be flagged onto an oyster card but not F&F, Network.
- Having to use contactless cards is a real pain for family travel from outside london, you need a different card per person and may not have enough cards.  Getting a Zip card for child travel (free or reduced costs) in advance has a cost (I think) and is a real faff (especially if you only travel to London a few times per year or less), and getting an Oyster card if you don't have one now costs £7 (non refundable, no fare credit).

Indeed, when I travel from my local station to Waterloo, adding a day travelcard costs around an extra £3 due to use of seniors railcard. Two journeys on the tube and it cheaper than using contactless.MilesT6060842 said:- Travelcards (combined into a train ticket) can be discounted with a railcard. One day travel cards will not now be withdrawn by TFL.0

and that is exactly why TfL wanted to remove them. But they have negotiated with the Department for Transport so those very cheap travelcards will be going up in price and TfL will likely get more of the revenue and the train companies less.TadleyBaggie said:
