in Cutting tax
Hi everyone,
Today I got my payslip for October and noticed my tax code had changed from 1275L to 455L and I had paid considerable more PAYE tax.
Today I got my payslip for October and noticed my tax code had changed from 1275L to 455L and I had paid considerable more PAYE tax.
When I looked into this, HMRC have said they estimate I will underpay PAYE tax by around £750 and this is why they have changed my tax code and I don’t understand how this has happened.
Up until this month, I have had the same tax code this financial year. I changed jobs in September (and am actually now on a lower salary) but nothing has been out of the ordinary with my payslips.
I just don’t get how being paid less has led to me paying nearly double the tax!
Any advice would be great - I’m pretty new to this stuff.
Thanks

Did you get paid by both employers in September , when you changed employers.0

Often you would receive 2 tax allowances in the month of changing jobs but this adjustment seems on the large side for that. Did you get paid twice in Sept ? Does your on line tax account show you as still being employed by the old employer with codes split across the 2 ?
