Playstation 1 console and driving games

I'm off to a holiday cottage with DH and the dogs over summer and was thinking of treating him to a playstation (the old one, not PS2). They have the consoles in Game for £14.99 but without any games. The chap in Game said their PS1 games are still quite expensive and I can probably get a bundle somewhere at a better price. I have no idea where to look, I have never used a playstation and I have no idea what game to get, DH likes driving games, dislikes "shoot em up" games, I dont think I will have any idea whats going on anyway. Car boot (Redcar racecourse) was full of em last week, games and consoles of all descriptions. Any advice for this gaming novice?

Ridge Racer Type 4, Gran Tourismo 2, Driver 2, TOCA Touring Cars are all ones that I had and enjoyed playing. Destruction Derby 2 wasn't too bad either. Try the Bestselling PsOne Racing/Driving Games List on Amazon for more ideas.

Thanks for that info. Went to the car boot sale in Redcar yesterday and there are plenty of playstation 1 consoles for sale, priced at £5 without games to £25 with loads of games and lots of extras. I also found:

I have exactly the setup your after - ps one with loads of driving games. I would go for the console from Game (at that price you can't go wrong - at least you get a guarantee of sorts!). For games, look out for 'Gamestation' - you'll find them in some blockbuster stores, aswell as standalone stores. I got all my games there, generally priced between 99p and £3.99. Its not really worth buying brand new PS one games, in my opinion anyway.

Ebay can be handy for games too

    best driving games for ps1:
gran turismo/tourism0? (can't spell) 1 and 2, toca touring cars/2/world touring cars. ridge racer (loads of different ones- all good), need for speed (all versions are good), vanishing point, worlds wildest police chases (think it was called), destruction derby. etc etc
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

Can back up the Toca recommendation - a very good game indeed. The Formula1 series was good too - especially the 97/98/99 ones. In my opinion the later ones lost a bit of the 'feel' and didn't impress quite as much (again, only in my opinion)
