Deliveroo / Just Eat / Uber Eats / Amazon Flex - What Insurance/help?

Been watching YouTube video's of the delivery courier gig thing, where individuals commonly stack the first three, and some do Amazon Flex too. I want to try it.

Some are saying get 'business insurance', other sources are saying 'Hire and Reward' delivery insurance, and some are saying the latter is more comprehensive. Should I get pay as you go or annual too? Am I right in assuming I must have the insurance before I apply to these each?

Could I be up and running soon-ish if I get to it? Assuming the insurance will be instant as soon as I pay for it. Some people say they can be waiting months for at least one of the food delivery applications to be accepted and given the okay.

I would be using my car. Only got qualified to drive a month ago though. Not sure if they're going to want me driving for a year+ like other places.

Also wondering if there's any other upfront cost, like uniform / food delivery/temp boxes?

Last question is are there any other courier type gigs I should or could be using? I work full time already just looking for more work. Love graft, just want to work like 80 hours every week. Think this could suite me well.

I did a short stint for deliveroo, they were then doing an offer for all the equipment (coat/bag etc) for free. I was pretty much ready to go after the meeting, just needed the sign up emails etc. I was on a push bike so not sure the procedure for cars.

If you're going to be using your car for business you must also update your car insurance to match, I assume currently you're just paying for Personal Usage.

  • I do Amazon Flex, within the Amazon app once you've signed up, you can sign up to an insurer called "Inshur", they work on a per hour basis, so you top up your pot and then for each hour you work they take money out. I pay 22p an hour but each person is different. You have to make sure that your main insurance company allows a top up insurer though.

    Hope this helps

One assumes you are paid pre-tax and therefore are required to complete an annual Self-Assessment to ensure correct tax/N.I is paid?
