Alliance and Leicester mortgage - now Santander

hi all

i have a question relating to extending my 25yr interest only mortgage by 2 years. I’ve been in touch with Santander and all seemed well, but my question is, why do I need to remortgage to Santander when Santander fully own Alliance and Leicester mortgages.

    I have a repayment vehicle in 2 years, 
    Presumably because A&L was taken over by Santander in 2008 and ceased to exist in 2010?

    Because there is no facility to alter your mortgage terms under the Alliance and Leicester Brand as they are no longer doing business.
