Steel framed home

Hoping someone might be able to provide some guidance on a steel framed home.

we had an offer accepted on a home, which we have subsequently realised is weir style steel framed home. The home report mentions that it has later been refurbished with rendered brick on the outer skin to improve thickness.

the current owners have shared they’ve never had any issues with mortgages or insurers however I’ve read online that it can be difficult to get a mortgage and insurance is at a premium.

can anyone provide insight into owning a steel framed home and the implications of this?

thank in advance

I sold my dads house earlier this year and one of the potential buyers owned a steel framed house. Our estate agent local to down there, who is a friend of a friend, said not to accept their offer even though it was slightly higher as he expected them to take a lot longer to sell. She said getting a buyer for theirs would be harder. Fortunately, the other offer was from a FTB and the sale went fine. Not sure how much more difficult it is for a mortgage on a steel framed house, but your best bet is probably to speak to a broker. Insurance costs can be estimated using dummy quotes.

I'd be surprised if the current owners fessed up to having any difficulties if they did have any?

Looking at L&G SmartR criteria, there are only five lenders who say yes to BISF (Weir wasn't an option). The best known are Kensington and Dudley BS.

The others mostly quote 'valuer's comments', or have a need for a structural engineer's report.
