Additional Hours

Good Evening,
Was speaking to my wife about work as she works as a Lunchtime Supervisor in a School. Apparently she signs in an out of work but only gets her contracted hours each month even though she is expected to attend meetings, training etc outside of her contracted hours. This may only be 30 minutes and only occasionally, and she signs in when she leaves. But these 'extra' hours are never included in her wage? My opinion is that if she is expected to attend then she should be paid for the extra time she attends?
Where is the extra time she signs for going? Surely if you work eg 1 hour a day but attend a 30 minute meeting/training then how can they not pay you?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on the terms of her contract, and whether the extra time means she's earning less than Living Wage.
The signing in may be more to do with knowing at all times who's on the premises. Do teachers also sign in?
What does her union say?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Ask her to check with the school - I work as a technician in a school and we have to fill out a pay claim for any extra hours that we do over our contracted hours i.e. for meetings etc.Fibro-Warrior0
