Shipping/freight isn't something I had even considered, will mention this to him too. Thanks.
Aside from the language side of things, it'd be interesting to know, to all reading this, if you were 15 now and about to go down a more trade/practical focused route where would you go?
What sort of trades are crying out for people, look likely to take off more, what sort of ones look like they might die a death due to either technology progress, lack of demand etc.
Tall, strong, 15, seems to like cars, and is decent at maths!!.. Bit random! I suppose mechanic therefore seems obvious perhaps. But not sure how well that pays compared to say plumber, spark, plasterer etc!
I say this as someone who has a vocational qualification (I'm not really super academic in many ways), but I went to uni, and I'm currently studying part time for a MA (as well as working in a job which is more academic than vocational, and has nothing to do with my vocational qualification).
At 15 he should not close doors to future development or careers, and I'd keep that in mind when selecting A'levels or his next steps.1 -
I couldn't agree more, I have tried, very directly, to persuade him that A Levels should come next, then make the call about uni, vocational/apprenticeships degrees, or just straight apprenticeship schemes.
He doesn't seem to be having any of it sadly. The best advice I ever got was to take the uni place I had been offered, at UCL, instead of joining a trainee scheme at Deutsch Bank. I can honestly say I wouldn't be in the position I am now if it wasn't for that.
But, there's limits how much I can push - it's down to him, and his Mum to push as much as she, can really!
Good luck with your MA. I wouldn't mind doing further studies, just for the sake of it really, when my children are older.0 -

or being a maintainance fitter in a factory probably pay better than mechanicing - i also know of people who have gone from Fitter type roles via some more study and supervisroy roles into Engineering projects - which can end up being quite serious money0
