With one TikToker spying cheese in security cases at a particular branch of Tesco, I wondered, has anyone else seen similar?
Have you spotted food items (rather than alcohol or non-food items) in security cases in a supermarkets?

Steak, joints of meat, cheese.1 -
Thanks @olgadapolga, really interesting. Do you find it's in most supermarkets in your area?0

That video is from July last year....As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...0

My local Co-op has recently started putting steaks, chicken and meat joints in security cases. Our Sainsbury's has had security tags on high value items such as meat for quite a while.Be kind to others and to yourself too.0

My Waitrose has hard tags on all bar their own brand whiskies and in fact just recently they started empty boxing their malts due to customer objections.
Sainsbury's have been hard tagging for a while, but sometimes they forget their own rules and tag the port bottles below a certain value.0 -
Our local coop is known as the free shop because most the time there is only a single staff member on the floor and they are normally down some aisle restocking or doing whatever it is they do when they scan the product markers on the shelf edge (stock/price control I guess).
You can never get service for age verified items or for items behind the counter. Routinely you see people just walking out with stuff. They used to have a security guard on Thurs-Sat evenings but that stopped ages ago.
Alcohol is tagged but often only the bottles at the front and the ones behind aren't. Steak and large packs of meat are in security boxes. People are still stealing them though as you often see the smashed remains of the security box around the back of the shop.0 -
Waitrose, only the more expensive wines and spirits, stuff over £30 a bottle.
Sainsbury's, only mid range and above wines and spirits, stuff over £20 a bottle. Sticker security tags on steak, joints and fish. Some beauty stuff in security boxes. Security do not intervene though, I have seen shoplifters walk out with bottles of spirits with tags on and set alarms off and security ignore them.
Asda, Morrison's and Tesco, most wine and all spirits tagged, steaks and fish in security boxes, joins with large security tags. Have dropped a lot of premium spirits. Not seen their beauty sections but probably boxed.
Co-op near work, stopped carrying joints, steaks in security boxes, all alcohol moved behind the counter or behind polycarbonate panels covering shelves.
In the last six months I have twice been approached in a pub by someone telling me that they can get me half price meat, spirits and wine for cash.1 -

When we first moved to this area, I was shocked by food items having security stickers, the town we'd moved from was clearly not a place to worry about shoplifting - although I witnessed a chap put a bottle of whiskey down his trousers and walk out - not even the alcohol had security devices on. Told staff members but they didn't do anything.
Where I live now, I doubt that even if staff witnessed a theft, they would do anything about it as the risk of being stabbed/attacked is probably quite high, given recent news stories locally. Although guns are also becoming popular of late 😳0 -
This was in a Tesco near me in January this year:
Sadly in several branches near me they are also putting their staff behind security shields: https://www.retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2023/10/tesco-new-safety-screens/Official MSE Forum Team member. Please report all problem posts to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com2
