I contacted HMRC before I retired and paid for my missing years. Can I assume they calculated it correctly or should I be checking with them? If I shouldn't have paid will I get my lump sum back (with interest perhaps)?
It is easy to check your NI record to see if you were awarded credits for years after 1978 where you were receiving child benefit.

  • Have others struggled to get a government gateway ID so that they can check their NI record online. Doesn't seem to be possible without a passport or driving licence. What percentage of retirees still have these.
