Lowell payment letter

Introvertedcj

I've tried going through the forum but I feel like I've confused myself reading these posts.
I've received a letter from Lowell regarding the alleged non-payment of a phone contract. Now IF this is actually true, I did have a contract with this phone network but it was more than 6 years ago and I also paid it off in full.
Do I reply first with a prove-it letter? Some of the posts have mentioned that if you make contact regarding a debt it begins the 6 years 'timeline' again for statute-barred debts. Again, I definitely paid off this contract but I'm getting myself confused and these relentless texts from Lowell are doing my head in.
Thanks (and very confused)

Just block any texts and ignore. Ignore any letters unless you get it’s a letter before action and just let them get on with it.These companies buy up debts for pennies in the pound and hope that people don’t know the legislation and will pay out of panic. It could even be a miss trace, looking for some one with similar details. If you really want to send them a letter then I think there is a prove it/statute barred hybrid letter somewhere that can be sent while not starting the clock again. Hopefully @fatbelly or @sourcrates will be online later and will be able to link to it.1

The "provit letter" is specifically worded so as not to acknowledge any debt, but you do not need to respond to texts/emails or phone calls, annoying as they may be.
Only if they can be bothered to write to you, should you respond.
If that happens, send the above to them, and see what they say.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
