Do all bank account get frozen?

I was declared bankrupt on the 29th and I have opened a new account with Monzo. But I am unclear what is meant to be happening with my old account. I thought it was meant to be frozen immediately. Direct debits are going through as normal.

Am I able to use this account or does the freeze take a few days?

Might not get frozen at all if you didnt actually mention the account. The system isnt as effective as you think.

Did you list all bank accounts including the Monzo?

Usually they say it's better to supply details of all accounts open up until your bankruptcy date, and then open a 'new' account on the day, or the day after bankruptcy (ensuring it's a basic account with no overdraft facility).

From my own recollection, it can take a short time for the OR to initiate the freezes and closures as someone has to go through your application and communicate with the banks, it's not usually the day of your bankrutpcy.

    Or even 10 years later....
  • The starling  account was mentioned in the bankruptcy so I will just wait for the freeze to kick in. The monzo account I opened after had recieved notification I was bankrupt in anticipation that the starling one would be frozen.

The OR does not freeze bank accounts, its the bank who do that.

  • Plus, given that the 29th was a Friday, it'll take several working days to start taking effect.
  • Apparently my account is not being frozen 🙃
