Which company do I claim my delay repay from?

I took a train last week, my ticket had a change in the middle where I had to get off and walk to the other station round the corner to get my second train. I do this fairly regularly.
The first train was about 20 minutes late meaning I missed my connection. Trains on the second leg of my route were cancelled for the following two hours, then there was a single train showing as scheduled, then the rest cancelled for the rest of the day. I didn’t fancy risking waiting in the rain for two hours for a train which might be cancelled (turns out it did end up running) so I got a bus instead. This takes about 2 hours itself but at least it was dry.
If the second train hadn’t been cancelled I’d have had to wait 10 minutes for the next one so normally I’d have claimed for 20 or 30 minutes delay repay from the first operator. Technically it was their fault that the first train delay caused me to miss my connection but it seems odd that I’d claim 2 hours plus from them when I’d have only been about 30 mins late home if all the trains on the second leg hadn’t been cancelled.
Am I right to claim the entirety of the delay from the first operator or should I be claiming from the second?

The company which caused the initial delay, so you are correct it is the first train operating company.0

My experience is you have to claim from the company who sold you the ticket, which might or might not be the company who caused the delay for which you need a repay.
Abandonments (at start or part way through) are a different process for compensation0 -
Abandonment or cancellation of a journey refunds are done through the ticket seller.
Delay repay is claimed through the train operating company that caused the delay
