Should I trust in TAX REFUND company?

Send the P60 P2 & p11 forms to your husbands tax office and they will check it and if a repayment is due your husband will be sent 100% of the refund. The company only sends the same forms to the tax office for you with an authority that you will have signed for the repayment to be sent to them. They will then pocket 40% (payment for all their work- in reality the tax offices work-)and send you 60%.
They only act as go between and dont do any work in the way an accountant does. I used to work for the revenue and it was always galling to see how these firms conned people out of their money by pretending that they were taking on the bad guys for them. Dont fall for it.0 -
It is possible for you to have overpaid, it can happen quite easily, my husband worked out his own Tax recently as he thought his tax code was wrong, by his reckoning he had overpaid around £2000 over two years. From April 2007 to April 2008 and from April 2008 to April 2009. He contacted the Tax Office and they refunded the first years money within a week and the second years money within a month, he got back just under £2500 in total, no hassle whatsoever, it seems they had put him on an Emergency tax code for reasons still unexplained! They were very helpful and friendly people, he now has the right Tax Code and is almost £100 a month better off.0

the catch with these companies is :
YOU not them are responsible for filling in your tax form and the claims statements you make on it ..
they help you claim for all kinds of refunds and overpayment, often they will claim something that may be a bit dubious, you get the repayment they take 40% 60% or at best 18% of the refund
then sometime later ( often years) the inland revenue opens and enquiry and finds that there is an error in the claim. The IR considers YOU responsible , and claims back the overpayment. thats 100% of it not 60 or 40. the other 40% or 60% is still with the tax refund company, who will have made sure you signed a statement acknowledging that you are responsible for your tax claim .. dodgy tax companies have been investigated and the directors have gone to prison, but there are a lot still out there!
be careful or do it yourself !0 -
