If anyone out there likes baking with chocolate, be aware of the change in weight that Dr Oetker are introducing to their chocolate bars. Down from 150g to 100g.

Tescos however still stock some of the old 150g bars which are on offer, down from £2 to (apparently) £1.25 with clubcard.

However, I noticed I didn't need my clubcard at the checkout to see that these old chocolate bars were on sale lower than the advertised clubcard price..

White Chocolate £0.88
Milk Chocolate £0.88
Dark Choc 54% £1.06
Dark Choc 72% £1.16

Check your own store to see if Tescos still have them, these were bought from Tescos Extra, Batley.

Happy baking!

  • I buy the cheapest Lidl bars of eating chocolate for baking and get good results.  I have always found the "cooking chocolate" bars to be inferior in taste.  I know they are designed to melt easily but they are of inferior quality.  Never had problems using the Lidl chocolate bars - melted in a basin over saucepan of hot water.

I only use non cooking choc too for baking, as long as it’s at least 60% cocoa I’m happy.

Chocolat Menier is superior to any nasty 'chocolate ' in UK even though it's supposed to be for cooking. My grandfather was a chocolatier for Lindt. I knows my chocolate and have the fillings to prove it 😂
