Loans for low credit score

Hi there, looking for advice. I am a single mother and currently not working. I am desperate to learn to drive. I am looking for a loan to be able to do this, however I have a poor credit score. Can anyone recommend where to start? I don't want to trawl through and apply for loads of loans as this will leave hard footprints. I also do not have a guarantor either. Any advice? Thank you.

How much are you looking for? You are going to find it difficult to afford driving lessons and/ or loan repayments while on benefits.

Have you asked for an advance of Universal Credit?

How much do you have in savings? Why do you have a poor credit score?

And how will you be able to afford a car and all the costs associated with that

That's a separate issue and the OP hasn't indicated that she wants to buy a car.  A driving licence is a useful thing to have anyway, and to add to your CV.
  • How much do you think you would need to borrow? A Credit Union might be one avenue to explore - Google "credit union near me" - but you must be sure that you can pay any loan back without causing yourself undue hardship.

It would not be a good idea to take out a loan in your situation even if you could. Work on improving your situation without a driving licence for now
  • Driving schools are usually prepared to let you pay lesson by lesson so you are not faced with a big sum to lay out at the start. Incidentally, your credit score is meaningless. It is a number made up by the credit agencies that no potential lender will see. It is your credit history that is important.

I think about 2 grand, that is the average.
No. I could try uni credit.
    About 250 at the minute.
    Previous loans and cards

Indeed I just want to pass first and yes absolutely! To me this is an investment and will open up so many opportunities work wise. It will repay itself ten fold in the long term

But why do you have a poor credit history? (Ignore the score.)

You need to understand the issues to know what action to take. Lots of people have had previous cards and loans and don't have a poor credit history.
