BBC News is reporting on a new campaign ...
Campaigners call for more energy support for vulnerable households - BBC NewsA coalition of 140 organisations and MPs has called on the government to consider introducing a social tariff to help with energy bills this winter.

What do we think? The concern is for the vulnerable, elderly and for those with disabilities who do not receive what they need from social benefits.

Wait for the outcry on this forum when the cost of what is another welfare scheme is added to standing charges.12

I'm not sure where all the hand wringers think the money comes from when they make these demands.
The dwindling number of people who are working, paying their taxes and having to pay full price and subsidies for social tariffs and other stuff are slowly being overwhelmed by having to fork out for it all.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers16 -
Difficult subject as I'm not vulnerable, elderly,or disabled myself I do have a fair number of family/friends who are.
I do question just how much support/money some others need, given the not inconsiderable amount already being in place for exactly that purpose.
Everyone would like more of everything in an ideal world, the harsh reality is that as always it comes down to money,or lack thereof, really a case of how much of money can be taken from those who have and given to those who don't.
That,as ever ends up tussling over who's deemed as being "deserving" or "undeserving" enough.5 -

We have a welfare system that hands out benefits so why not use it? Oh I forgot, adding social/welfare costs to energy bills is a way of hiding ‘tax’ rises without any proper Parliamentary scrutiny.

I guess this has not been as in the spotlight recently so it is no surprise to kick start some media headlines and bang that drum.
As others have said it just takes from those that can work as it will just mean them paying for it.
Is that fair? No3 -
