It is a good idea to apply the brakes occasionally, to clean the rust off, otherwise it could fail an MOT. I suspect the discs will easily last the life of the car, though.0

In my EV I can shift into N whilst driving which completely disables regen and it's all mechanical braking, good when your coming off onto a slip road and you want to clean your discs.
Ideally you want to maintain momentum so it's always preferable to let the car gather speed [energy] than using regen as you're losing some [energy] in doing so, obviously if allowing the momentum to gather incurs speeding then you have no choice but to regen.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.0
