Workplace pension

I have worked with my current employer since September 2009, but I was only offered the company pension scheme in 2014.
Can I claim for the years I have missed out on?
Thanks & regards

Probably not. Employers with 50 to 249 employees only had to offer a workplace pension from 2014. Before that it was optional,1

Auto enrolment was phased in over the years and wasnt a fixed date. Large companies first, followed by smaller ones. Each company had its own staging date and they had to offer it by that staging date. There was no backdating.
However, nothing stops you making the equivalent employee contributions to the pension. You are not tied to any staging date or anything similar. i.e. if you felt that your contribution would have been £10,000 between 2009 and 2014, then you can pay in £10,000 as long as you earn more than that.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Did you not enquire about pension contributions, compensation, holidays and other benefits when you accepted the job in 2009 ?konapete69 said:I have worked with my current employer since September 2009, but I was only offered the company pension scheme in 2014.Can I claim for the years I have missed out on?Thanks & regardsMortgage free

Even if your company had offered a pension before 2014, there was no obligation for them to pay anything into it themselves.0

Not unless your employer (a) offered a pension scheme before 2014 and (b) you had a contractual right to join it and did whatever was necessary in terms of applying for membership.konapete69 said:I have worked with my current employer since September 2009, but I was only offered the company pension scheme in 2014.Can I claim for the years I have missed out on?Thanks & regardsGoogling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0
