Voluntary NI Contributions

Although already in receipt of my State Pension, I contacted DWP late last yr 2022, because I had some weeks missing in 2007-08 and 2008-09.  A total of 48 wks.  I had been contracted out previously and after these dates because I worked for the Civil Service but I didn’t receive the new full State Pension, so thought I would give it a try.  DWP wrote back and conyI had 45 State Pension qualifying years but if I paid £760.80 Class 3 contributions for the missing wks, then my weekly pension would increase by £15.87pw. I duly paid HMRC £760.80 last December but my State Pension didn’t increase.  After many, many phone calls to both DWP and HMRC, the DWP telephoned and wrote to confirm they’d made a mistake and paying the extra C3 contributions would make no difference to my State Pension.  This was in April this year 2023.  Since then I’ve been trying to get my £760.80 back from HMRC.  They have a backlog of >25 wks in replying to customer letters.  They ‘lost’ my first letter so I had to send another in June requesting a refund.  I’ve now asked my local MP to intervene.  It’s been a stressful and anxious time.  A nightmare sand that’s before I’ve even got round to complain to the DWP for their inaccurate information and correspondence!
