I just book the next available appointment at a test centre convenient for me. It’s after the due date, but that’s not my fault, and they’re not making it my problem. If they want the car done by a certain date, they’ll have to get the finger out and fix the system. No way am I sitting for hours trying to book or travelling miles because of their inefficiency.
No need to drive many miles. Book anywhere in NI initially, then use cancellation/change system to change venue. Go on line after hours or very early in morning, less queuing to get onto site

Thats what i do. Of the three cars i do (our two and my FILs) i've never failed to get a date at either of my preferred centres by my MOT expiry date. Doesnt require a lot of effort - just a few mins every day or a few times a day.
The "not my problem" attitude of some is all very well, but i'd rather not have worry of driving a car thats not MOT'd, particularly if i was unfortunate enough to have an accident.
