Fender Rumble - what's this thingy?

Curious as to what this item is - it seems to be between the PSU and power amp sections of this PCB.
It looks like a metal cover, and underneath there's a solid block which screws to the metal casing, so presume it's a heatsink of some sort? I don't intend to remove that top screw - just in case :-)
Cheers.

  • Remove the screws and have a butchers , screws are designed to be removed.

Saying the underside looks to be missing a screw and appears to have the wrong screw fitted too

It certainly appears to be some sort of heat sink
  • There was only one screw in the underside, and it's correct 'cos it came through the outside casing and was countersunk.
    Scared to remove cover :-(
  • Ah ok looked wrong from the picture

Sometimes you have to live a little!
  • Just concerned in case it's 'glued' underneath, or covered in heat paste. I'll wait until I completely destroy the PCB first... :-(

PCB print says D312 to D314 so four (surface mount) Rectifier Diodes for the DC power supply I imagine.

Don't remove the screw in case it does mess up the thermal conductivity of a working unit and you'd need to get new ones when they get too hot.
  • Thanks for that, Rodders.
Interesting it has a further set of rect diodes in addition to the main unit.
Yup, I won't be touching it!
The amp is in otherwise immaculate condition, so best to pass it on to someone who can fix it - without me making it worse....
