I store the vac pac bags away from sunlight and never had a problem, after all they are BB and not use by.
My mother has things in her spice draw that are older than me which she says are "fine" but a quick sniff of them -v- something under 40 years old shows the vast difference. If your process works for you and you're happy with it then that's great, it really depends on just how long you are keeping them before using them. Given how much we use of certain lesser spices it feels like false economy to save £3 to buy 5 years supply at once if the product has notably declined in quality long before the end of year 5.

We do shop in the World Food aisle and also non-european supermarkets but it's more about find products that you cannot find elsewhere in the supermarket rather than saving money.

A new Chinese supermarket has opened up not far from us, it's funny to see all the Cucumber Walkers Crisps or Sour Fish and Tomato flavour.

nothing to do with how long I am keeping them before using them, as I explained I vac pac any spices and herbs so nothing can be lost as no air can get in. So it’s certainly doesn’t noticeably decline.

I use an awful lot so would never save £3 for a 5 year supply.

Slightly off topic but has anybody noticed that Sainsbury's sell frozen crushed garlic 'cubes' and also ginger (no added water) 400g for about £1.20, by Taj.

On nectar offer at 75p at the moment, with pretty good reviews! In some Asda stores too, according to Google. Sadly not available in my area or I'd be giving it a go, I don't have the will to prep enough fresh garlic for batch cooking!

Been buying them for years, I also buy the garlic&ginger together cubes as a lot of recipes call for garlic ginger paste. I buy it in Tesco at £1.00 standard price for Surya brand. (I don’t shop in Sainsburys as it’s too expensive compared to most others)

I can only guess that it's based on sales.

I have both a Waitrose and Sainsbury's in my town, both medium/large. Sainsbury's has two dedicated fridge bays dedicated to Eastern European in Fresh (mainly cold meats), plus three world foods (Asian) canned/bagged vegetables, rice, oil, spices, plus a frozen vegetables (Asian) bay. Whereas Waitrose has an half aisle of world pre-packed foods, but I don't remember seeing any EE.

I would buy if I saw any as I'm keen to widen my experience.

I love the fact that lentils in the world food isle cost about 10-20p more for double the quantity of supermarket own brand.
