Argos / Habitat - Return possible for assembled furniture?

Hi Forum,

I bought a piece of furniture 10 days ago online and had it delivered last week. It came in a flat pack.

I fully built and assembled it per instructions and threw away the box at the time.

The more I see it each day, the more I realise it just isn't the right size for the space.

Is it possible way to return the item and get a full refund? I know IKEA accept fully assembled items and was curious to know if Argos / Habitat would do the same?

Thanks.

  • From their website.

If you've changed your mind and need to return an item, you have 30 days from the date of collection or from the date of delivery to return your item(s). Your item(s) needs to be:

    • Unused and with all original components
    • In its original packaging (with the tags if applicable)
    • In a resaleable condition
Even with IKEA if you want to return it fully assembled you have to take it to the store yourself, if you want them to collect it you have to disassemble it and you will be charged a fee for collection.
  • With Argos, you would need to dismantle and box it all back up as received. They won’t take your item back fully built, it wouldn’t be resaleable for them, it wouldn’t fit back in with their logistics system of boxed, barcoded, and processed into shipping at the speed of light.

Your avenue here would be to eBay or gumtree it, with a nice discount. If it’s a popular piece you should be able to find a buyer.

And stop throwing away boxes until you’re sure you want to keep stuff.

    So return and refund accepted.

Dismantle and put it all in black bin bags is what Customer Service told me via their online chat. From a little Googling, I believe there are differences in return policies with regards to buying a product with Argos online versus in-store. I think its something to do with the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

Luckily I had a spare box that was almost the exact same size of the original box I threw away. For reference, here is a transcript of the online chat:

2023-09-15 09:49:08 [C:ME ] I purchased a piece of furniture online. It came as a flat pack and has been fully assembled, The original box and paper work was thrown away. The drawer keeps catching the lip of the cabinet and over time will cause damage. The product is not fit for purpose.
