Debt Repayment

I currently have an overpayment of Housing Benefit of £8000 which i am paying off at £11 per week. My family have offered to help and we are thinking of offering a one off payment of half, £4000 as full and final settlement. Has anyone done this with their local council or any other debt?

Benefit overpayments cannot be settled by making offers.
The DWP can take money from any benefit you are currently or will be entitled too, including your future state pension.
Debts can only be written off by insolvency, they won`t take offers when they can claw back the full amount from your benefits or income.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
