I'm trying to get to grips with the loan eligibility tool and which lender to approach.
We currently have a joint loan with Tesco with approx £2500 remaining. I also have some credit card debt in my name only (0%). My husband has no individual debt. Neither of us have anything onerous in our credit files.
We want to borrow for some home improvements (windows) but don't want to add to our mortgage. About £9k.
The loan eligibility checker only gives me 80% chance with Tesco due to affordability, but that is for an individual loan. There are a few 100% options but at higher APR.
Tesco have the option to take out a second joint loan which is presumably not taken into consideration by the MSE tool.
My first instinct was to apply for a new joint loan with Tesco as we are existing customers, but given the MSE 80% chance, I'm not sure if a rejection would then jeopardise an application to the higher chance lenders.
I would value your thoughts please?

If rejected, all that will show is a search, so nothing to put lenders off on its own.
Given you're already carrying debt, go with the lender offering the best chance.0 -
Thank you. The better chance lenders are twice the APR though which is why I am a little hesitant.0
