Does your local branch have plenty of staff and few if any customers? The new one in Bradford looks like that.subjecttocontract said:I'll second Metro as good for switching. They can open an account on the spot it you visit with ID.....10 minutes and you are done. 77 branches in 70 towns.
They are open 7 days a week and are also quite good if you have a dog but not so good if you want a competitive savings account.

I've no idea, I wouldn't touch Metro with your bargepole.......but then, I'm not looking for a switcher account.GeoffTF said:

Never thought of it that way! To be honest, I’d never mention it to a bank anyway and just state that I’m using it as an ‘additional current account’ (guessing they don’t like donor accounts).Thumbs_Up said:This so called phase “burner account” has a criminal connotation ring to it. You all see it in the movies when criminals use "burner" mobile phones for nefarious reasons. Just saying..

I think with both Santander and Nationwide where I've had several 'bu??er' accounts, they have asked me to select from a list the purpose of the new account ... shopping, emergency, ... but 'bu??er' not mentioned.1

My joint account with my husband is in my maiden name, and we don't tinker with that. All my personal accounts are in my married name. Personally I would open a sole account with the bank that you already have a joint account with because it'll be quicker to set up (assuming you already use their app) and use that account to switch out once it is fully set up. I open second accounts with banks I've already got accounts with for switching out, but try not to do it more than once a year per bank.Jogster said:Thank you all for your helpful replies ☺️ , so much insight.
No plans to apply for new credit cards/ mortgage so no worries there
I still use my maiden name for work purposes so have retained the account in my maiden name for that reason. I have an account in my married name jointly with my husband but would prefer not to tinker with that. Husband is not up for switching.
I think I will open an account with a digital bank eg Metro as a pp said and take it from thereDebt Free: 01/01/2020
