Does Council Need to give a reason for bill change?

After receiving several bills from our council this year the amount has now increased dramatically but no reason has been given to me despite me asking. I've telephoned and emailed but get no reply. I'm asking for someone to explain the increase - is that too much to expect?

Not enough info here to go off.
How much were you being charged in 2022/23 and how much are you being asked for in 2023/24?
Have you moved house? Have you been rebanded? Have you lost a discount of some description this year? Have they changed it from 12 monthly payments back to 10 and its not gone up at all? Do you have historic arrears?
Do you live in Croydon, Thurrock or Slough?1 -
As above, you really need to provide some more information in order to receive relevant advice. Not least of which, what bill are you referring to - council tax, rent, something else?0

If this is service charge then you should be being sent a breakdown statement showing how the bill for the current year is made up - and once that amount is set it would be unusual for it to be changed - usually any overspends get rolled to the following year and added on there.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
