Got a lot of spare change round the house, coppers etc?
I am too embarrassed to present a handful of coppers to the cashier as payment for a couple of items, I think some shops even have a policy on how much small change they will accept. I therefore used to go to the coin-counting machine which counts your change and prints a voucher for your shopping that day though it does charge you a fee per pound counted. With the advent of self-service checkouts, you can feed your coins directly into the slot at the till. Not sure how much they will accept but did about £5's worth of 5p and 10p coins the other night. Just make sure you go at quiet times otherwise the people in the queue behind you will be less than impressed as you feed your coins in one by one........
I always use as much shrapnal as possible.
I have an emergency £20 note on me at all times and a cloth bag with about £15 of change. I just pay for stuff with it . Milk sugar the small items I need.
Another good tip this time of year is late late night shop. Got a mice beef joinmt reduced from £7 to £3 in Asda at 5am the other morning. I also buy my veg at the local farm. 25kg of reds were £6.40. We have loads of family over in the next week so they will get used. Just need to keep em in datrk cool area. Parsnips were good as well at £1.80 a kilo and brussels at 80p a stalk0 -

Top Tip: get at least 100 pints of milk and 50 loaves of bread as the shops are shut for 2 days and you dont want to run out0

my tip..........shop online!!
You can sit comfortably, chop and change your basket contents until it fits your budget, plan your meals for the week ahead, and get it all delivered to your door instead of venturing out. No hassle.
There are ALWAYS online vouchers to use to get the delivery charge free or even more off.
It's the best thing on earth!!!0
