That's the exact situation my missus was in last tax year. Because of the prior employment, HMRC said they couldn't split the tax code. One pension got the whole lot, on a cumulative code, the other got SBR so was all taxed at 20%.Dazed_and_C0nfused said:
Once the second pension is in payment and that has been reported to HMRC (by the pension payer) HMRC will review your tax code and should split your tax code allowances between the two pensions.
Having an employment earlier in the same tax year might slightly complicate matters
The result was correct overall if slightly odd with Pension 1 refunding tax taken from Pension 2.0
