Starting in January I intend to put £1 per day in a piggy bank till the end of November 2008. That's the money that I'll use for Christmas spending. I saved £212 in £2 coins this year but want to save a different way for 2008's Christmas fund. If £1 is too much, 50p or even 20p per day would be very useful next Christmas.

Wow! That means that you will have £334 saved for Chrimbo!
Stand by it; you will reap the rewards!
My mum (Rabbit) did the "20p and Under Challenge", and saved about £15 a month!
Enjoy your Xmas next year (hee hee)! :TDon't throw away your coppers and small change!I love my money pot. Awwww... my little dustbin. I'm being serious peeps, please don't laugh.

Ensure it is a sealed container of some sort, I know how tempting it can be to crack one open. Why not do the above or instead maybe put £10 in the container at the end of the week before your payday (assuming you are paid weekly that is) and have a seperate container and put any change that is under 10p (10,5,2,1) in it and you could easily have £600 for christmas that way.
All the best anyway

Have you thought of opening a savings account to act as a 'piggy bank' and set up a DD to drip feed in £5 or so each month. I find that because a DD comes or at source you never miss the cash, you don't have to remember to do it, and your savings will earn interest over the year to boost your stash. HTHLife's a beach! I think this year I am going to put any change under 20p's in a pot and also I like your direct debit account MATH - especially if I put it into a savings account I cannot easily access!! Happy savings people!Debt busting 2022 Total £15842.68 £0 (100% paid since 1/1/22)

Sounds like a great idea, Lilac Lady-I might join you on this one, but for a holiday fund rather than Christmas
I certainly spend more than £1 a day on horrible machine coffee at work-would rather drink water and spend the money on a few days away somewhere nice! 0 -
Hey all
I did this for this Christmas, I had £400 in my £1/£2 piggy bank and £40ish in coins (20p's and under)
and I only have handful of people to buy for (am single, no kids, with small family and we do secret Santa in my friends) so only spent £170 on presents so got to use the rest towards my 3 Christmas Parties. Even after paying for new outfits, food, drink and taxis for all 3, I still have over £100 left
which is going into my ISA for my holidays to Canada in May.
Merry Christmas to you all xx* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

I save anything 20p (have a small coin purse in my handbag so if I get it change I seperate it straight away). Got the idea from a magazine years ago, and the theory behind it (apparently) you buy a lot of small bits you don't really need because you have the right money, but if you never have anything smaller than a 50p in your purse (or pocket guys) it cuts down the temptation...2 lots of money saving for the price of 1...bargin!!!!!!!!!!!!
:T :T :T
Every so often i put the change into the coinstar at work and then put the coupon straight onto a gift card, so come christmas I don't have to lug a jar of change down to the bank.0 -
I save 20ps and under and have about £200 to pay into the bank. Next year I'm aiming to use direct debits for bills but cash only for shopping - it's too easy to hand over a bank card rather than sticking to a budget.0

I am going to def do this too.
I have not been organised at all this year (usually have vouchers from hamper company) but didn't bother this year after what happened last year.
Will put something away every day...£1 or more and any 20p + 5ps. It will not be long in mounting up.
Great idea. Thanks.
:T:hello: Never say Never :smileyhea0 -
sounds like a plan i already save coppers and 5p's and now will start to save 50p-£1 a day upSealed pot challenger # 10
