First (and last) purchase from Amazon Fresh

In a spirit of adventure I deviated from the Tesco meal deal this lunchtime on Canary Wharf to attempt the Amazon Fresh experience there.
The instructions going into the store were clear: swipe your contactless on entry; pick up a paper bag; put your shopping into the bag; and on leaving the store your account will be debited the value of the shopping.
So far, so good so I did so and loaded my BBQ Pulled Pork & Slaw Wrap, bag of crisps and bottle of diet coke into my bag and left the store. When I checked my bank account later they had charged me TWENTY NINE POUNDS not the £3.90 I was expecting.
I managed to download the receipt on line and phoned up their customer services who informed me that they are unable to access the transaction on-line and that I will have to go back to the store to sort it out.
Disappointing in the extreme!

By way of an update: to be fair to them, they have since refunded the extra money but, due to the worry caused, I shant be back.2

I got emailed the receipt a few hours later when using Amazon Fresh. Also you scan the Amazon app, don't think you can just tap a contactless card?
Edit to add, since looked it up and you can enter with just a card, but it is better to set it up in the app as then you get the receipt emailed to you.

It actually varies by store, which I was surprised with. In the Canary Wharf one you scan the QR code in the App or your card on entry and then just walk out at the end. In the one in the City though you just walk in and its only on exit that you either scan the code or present your card (or they have a side gate if you are leaving without buying anything)jon81uk said:I got emailed the receipt a few hours later when using Amazon Fresh. Have used both a few times and to date all bills have been correct including when items have been put in the bag walked around the shop and then taken out and deposited on a random shelf.1 -
I think they are gradually converting the app-only stores to allow you to use a card too.Official MSE Forum Team member. Please report all problem posts to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com1
