Personal tax savings

Hi my hubs is now retired. Next year if the pension goes up as predicted it will mean with a tune cope pension his income could be 12970 would he eligible for 5000 interest all e.

  • Not all of it no.

    If his only non savings non dividend income (earnings, pension income, self employment profits, rental income etc) was £12,970 and he hadn't applied for Marriage Allowance then he would get £4,600 of the savings starter rate band.

    And once that had been used the £1,000 savings nil rate band (also 0% tax rate).

    If he has applied for Marriage Allowance it would be £3,340 savings starter rate band and £1,000 savings nil rate band.
