    Nice try Pat, but the mechanics of the scheme just didn't work to allow for PILON to be paid in. And yes of course I could put it into a SIPP, but that wouldn't get me the 2% NI back.

    As for the 'fiddle' argument, it was the same reason why they wouldn't rehire you within a year unless you paid all the redundancy back - they had got it into their heads that HMRC might think there was 'engineered' redundancies taking place with huge settlements, that allowed for aggressive tax avoidance.

    Total BS from my perspective but they are one of the world's biggest banks, so there would never be any negotiation on that point...

    The company could re-employ after any short break. Provided that they had gone through the termination process correctly/legally
