In middle of divorce and marital home has been sold.  Marital home in ex name only but i had charge on it so he cant touch the proceeds of sale.  I have just been presented with a bill from his friend for work that he claims he did on house before it was sold.  This work did not need done and was mostly cosmetic like painting, cleaning etc.  I had house painting one year prior to this and also cleaned it throughout prior to sale. He has asked for this bill to be paid out of proceeds of house sale.  I believe this is an attempt at him and his friend trying to get money and split it someway although obviously i cant prove this.
However where do i stand legally refusing to pay a bill for services that i did not request?

Also is there a way to appeal the bill and report the tradesperson that issued this?  I have no proof this painting, cleaning etc was ever done.  It is a bill for thousands of pounds.

You did not engage his services, he did not provide you with a product or service, tell him that he needs to invoice whoever commissioned him to do the work, then ignore him.

Tell the guy to take it up with whoever contracted him as you are not paying for something you didn't want.
