I am looking for help not sure what to do next. I have been with my current dentist for 17 years and the last year with them I found out that my jaw was not aligned and I think this played a massive part in my teeth breaking- they admitted that this possibly was the case and offered to fit me with a bite retainer for night time. In the complaint letter back to me their emphasis is on prevention. They left me with broken teeth and after getting fed up with them I sought a second opinion. it turns out I have severe gum disease, bone loss, and an underlying abscess and potential for multiple teeth extraction and root cancel treatment all at a cost of almost £8,000. I believe that their lack of care has contributed to the underlying problems I am having. They do not seem to have followed the correct procedures for complaints and they have not been in touch since the end of March. I decided in June to seek a new dentist but had to wait as they had a waiting list. I do not know what to do next. Hope somebody can help, please.

You may be right but you will need an expert opinion to back that up to have any chance of redress. Is your new dentist prepared to provide that?

Do you have a copy of your records from the old dentist? You can obtain these free of charge by making a subject access request. However, in the real world, it is very difficult to prove if anything is missed out or "revised" before you get copies.
  • Actually all dental computer records have software that is only accessible by the company providing , that logs any and all entries , so if a record is amended or changed both the original record and the amended record ,the time and date of entries are held in perpetuity so any attempt at changing records is flagged.
