battery charger/batteries at Aldi

Options
There is a battery charger (Delta, £4.99) and rechargeable batteries (FiF NiMh, £1.99 a pack) on offer at Aldi today. Does anyone know the make or if they are any good? How cost effective are rechargeable batteries compared to alkaline batteries that I usually use? How many times, approx, can they be recharged?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Not sure about that make but I generally use uniross rechargeables which are ok.

If they are charged properly they work fine, but not so great in my camera as they run out quickly even with proper ones that are meant for camera's (will buy one without normal batteries next time).

At that price though they are worth a go, because even if you use them a few times and don't get on well with them it's only the equivalent price of a pack of non- rechargeables!

I got a couple of packs today, i can't say what there like yet as i haven't tried them. Anyway they are FIF(whoever they are) 650mAh 1.2v and it says you can recharge them at least 750 times. I use this type in my PC mouse but i do find i have to recharge them every four days. Anyway if your after rechargeables you can't go wrong at that price.

Rechargeables never last as long as 'normal' batteries, so there are some things they're not suitable for. I've seen one in a clock, which went at double speed for a while! But when they fade, they fade fast!

They last longest and hold the charge better if you discharge them fully before recharging them - as do mobile phone batteries, in general. Some chargers have this facility, others don't.

Is it Aldi that offers the moneyback guarantee if not satisfied? If it is, you have nothing to lose!

The Uniross ones are now treble that at 2000mAh which should be a lot better. Depends what you want to use the Aldi ones for, as I've never found their stuff to be really poor value for money.

  • We bought ours today and the batteries. Only neg is the charger does not appear to have a timer to cut off when the batteries are charged. However it is quick and 1-4 AAA batteries only take 3 hours. AA take 7 hours, C and D take 17 hours and 9V 15 hours. The charger has a discharge option but you only need this on Ni-Cd batteries, not on the Ni-Mh batteries they are selling. We have had very few problems with Aldi purchases, and they are really good if you have a problem with something. Don't think we can go wrong to much for this price. We have 3 teenagers all with MP3 and walkmans and have saved a fortune on batteries since we switched to rechargeables.

I'd guess these are the AAA size - anyone know what capacity the AAs are?
  • The AA are 1700mah. That's what written on side of battery.
