Grandparent NI credits

Options
My NI record shows I have 41 years full contributions but says I am a year short of getting a full pension in 7 years time.  I have stopped work but think I can claim for looking after my granddaughter since July 2022 as her parents both work and get family allowance.  Can I claim 2022/2023 in October 2023 or do I have to wait till October 2024 to claim when I can claim a full financial year for 2023/24? I am concerned the parents will go over the income threshold for claiming child benefit.  TIA

There is no harm in claiming 22-23 then 23-24 if available.  You could then top up the part year later if necessary.  I believe the parent could still make a no payment claim just for the credits to transfer out to you.
