Carer’s allowance is based entirely on your weekly earnings level- tax and NI plays no part.housebuyer143 said:My employer says they will reissue the P45 next month... Hmmm and carers say they disregard tax refunds so that's good.
Let's just see what happens next month I guess 🤞1

Another email! Ok, so as you all said, no new P45 - give current one to employer and they will pay me next month on a OT tax code and send me payslip confirming payment. Then I will have to claim tax back from HMRC 0 0

No, you cannot claim it back from the new company. They have not authority to refund the tax.
You can contact HMRC once you have the payslip and ask if they will adjust your pay and tax figures to include that payment and send the amended details to your new employer.
If they do, your new employer can then refund any tax overpaid.
It sounds like your old employer was not familiar with this scenario.1

Hindsight is wonderful but, had the final payment not been split into two, the whole situation could have been avoided. The total payment would have been included on the P45 and the new employer could indeed have dealt with any overpayment through payroll.sheramber said:No, you cannot claim it back from the new company. Yes, but I would have got stung for NI which I can't get back and student loan that I can't get back until may 2024, so arguably it's annoying the situation I find myself in, but I have saved some tax.[Deleted User] said:

I wasn't expecting to be able to find a new job so quickly tbh, but these things happen 🤷♂️0

Ok, good to know. So I'll call HMRC after the final payment and ask them to recalculate. In the past my overpayments just ended up in my pay in future months, but I guess moving employer will complicate this process. Thank you.[Deleted User] said:

I presume that you meant to reply to sheramber’s last post which is the way to go.housebuyer143 said:
