Are homeowners eligible for jsa

Options
I haven’t worked for a long time as I was looking after my mum whilst dad was working overseas. He has now offered to buy me somewhere to live. I’m worried that if I accept his offer, I will somehow be ineligible for jsa whilst looking for work as I’ll own property, although I have no savings.

I got JSA last year and am a home owner.  I've known others that were the same.  It's not an asset based benefit.  It's affected by you working or not and whether you are deemed to be truly looking for work.

JSA is now only claimable for new claims as new style JSA which is for those who meet the National insurance requirement (currently tax years 20/21 and 21/22 ), if you have savings of less than £16k you can claim Universal Credit, the value of a house that you live in is ignored.

Is the place to live that your Dad has offered in the UK or overseas?
Just to confirm, there will only be one property in which you will live - not living elsewhere and renting the second property.

I think, as SammyJammy says, you are unlikely to be eligible for the new-style JSA, and would be looking at Universal Credit.  That wouldn't be affected by you owning the house you live in.
