Worn Trainers

Hi all
Couldn't be sure where I should post this so please let me know if there is somewhere better.
I just wanted to canvass opinion really. I bought a cheap (£20) pair of trainers about a month ago. The backs of the trainers have now become so worn down that they are virtually unwearable (despite using the laces as my dad always told me I should).
I do use them an awful lot - I walk 5+ miles every day. But my question is, do you I should expect them to only last that long or is it reasonable to ask for a refund. FI the shop was JJB, and I have no complaint about the service or the comfort of the trainers themself etc.
Thanks

yup, a fiver a week is pretty expensive for trainers, I would complain! do you still have the reciept? I took a really cheap pair of plimpsoles back to new look after a couple of weeks as the soles had worn through at the back - even though they are sheap they are shoes, designed for a purpose and should be fit for that purpose 9ie. walking around in) for ore than a few weeks!
If you had to replace £20 trainers every month, that would mean you were paying out £240 a year for shoes!!!0 -
the £20 ones never seem to last, so i started buying myself and 2 sons nike airmax trainers at around £60, expensive yes, then considering i get at least a years wear out of them, then they do actually work out cheaper in the long run. i walk a lot of miles too, especially at weekends where walking is my fav hobbyenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0

Well, I must be lucky. I bought a pair of trainers for a fiver in ASDA over a year ago. Worn them three times weekly down the gym and they still look in pretty good shape. I think you should complain. You may be on a stickey wicket if they didn't have a specific time warranty, but if you don't ask, you don't get !0

I think by law something has to be 'fit for purpose' , which these don't seem to be as it is not reasonable for shoes to wear out so fast.
JJB is a sports shop, so they can't claim that these were 'fashion' items (DD had shoes which fell apart that apparently were just meant for standing in!)I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I am lucky too, I bought a pair of trainers from a cheap shop in yarmouth. Only £10 and they are some of the most comfy trainers I have ever had. Still going strong a year on. Wish I had bought a second pair. I object to paying £40+ for trainers such a rip off when you can find just as good for a much lower priceJeremyMarried 9th May 20090

As daft as it sounds, I would seek advice first because as luxor4t states they are sold and have resulted not being fit for purpose, I think it is more likely they will replace them if anything, but you should definately try.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0

You've walked over 150 miles in them, so some wear and tear is to be expected - do you have a picture of the trainers you can upload?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Don't have the exact wording for it, but essentially when goods are sold, they should be able to do the job they are designed for, for a reasonable length of time. I don't think footwear which lasts only a month, regardless of how much it has been worn, meets the standard expected. Do you have your receipt/bank statement as proof of purchase date, OP?
I would certainly take them back, and ask for an exchange or refund, and remember that while you are in the right, it won't hurt to explain how happy you have been with the quality of service received in the store, how you have recommended them to friends etc, and generally make it easy for them to do the right thing!0 -
Thank you all for your replies.
In answer to a few I still have my reciept so no worries for proof of purchase - tbh I don't believe I'd have trouble getting an exhange as I doubt the person on the checkout would really want the hassle of having to say no. What I don't want to do is claim for something unfairly just becuase i happen to use them more than most.
Unfortunately I dont have a photo but the bit thats worn is the padded bit that most traniers have right at the back (where you put your fingers to lever them on) - its completley worn away on both trainers.0 -
take 'em back, if they will refund get a pair from tesco for £5 !! I did, no complaints about wear, etc. If they won't refund, get exchange and then if they do it again in a similar timescale demand a refund and go to tesco !!......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
