    Thank you so much.
I do have a smart meter but I am not with my current leg and gas provider for the fit payments (I never transferred it from my provider at the inception years ago) and as far as I am aware, the smart meter does not have anything to do with the solar panels

You need a smart meter to be on smart export tarrifs, you just need to give up the deemed export for a year, if it's more valuable than the deemed and you want.

You may be forced off deemed export anyway one day soon, some supplier have started doing that and it's legal.

Tesla have started Tesla Energy in the UK, something to keep an eye on https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/jul/12/elon-musk-tesla-electric-supplier-britain

Unless the Tesla battery has been discounted again changing things it's an expensive battary and the are cheaper ones out on the market.

Thank you everyone. I learned a lot from absolutely every reply. Would you believe I thought I had to switch both the gas and electric -@Qyburn- thank you again for the heads up.
I am proceeding with caution without the powerwall and switching to an EV rate with Octopus.

Surely this would be awesome ! I would love something to rock the gravy train that is the UK energy market if it gives us all options. I won't lock myself into any deals as this might move quite quickly.

I know "gravy train" is a commonly used expression but trains are meant to rock a little and it doesn't do them any harm.  "Rock the gravy boat" might better express your sentiments.
