To the original poster, I’ve called Halifax 3 times now to get the supposedly lower rates shown on the news after fixing a 2 year mortgage at the same time as you did, and each time they’ve said the lower rates don’t apply to existing customers. They said to keep calling every 2-3 weeks until a couple of weeks before the new rate is due to start, to see if there’s a rate drop that’s relevant to existing customers. Already paid a broker £150 before fixing, but tempted to do it again nearer the time to see what the competition are offering to new customers, as I’m not feeling all that valued as an existing Halifax customer right now.
  • All, I have a Halifax mortgage and back in July 2023 they offered me a product switch, which i can take as its still valid. However, thought i would call to see if there are better rates of offer and much to my dismay, found out that their rates have actually gone up. I do not understand this, when all the language in the news is about banks being asked to help out and be part of a charter and the Gov encouraging them to reduce rates. Reductions look like they are for new borrowers only, which only helps with money circulation, suiting the powers at be. What can we do ???

Consult a Broker on Monday next (2nd October) would be my tip for existing Halifax borrowers.
    I am a Mortgage Broker
