Waitrose vouchers

  • My 'free' Saturday Guardian newspaper has now reduced to £1.80 off voucher.  Waitrose is good for some things but actually when I go often the item looking for isn't there.  I have switched to Sainsbury supplimented by Tesco.  Only thing really that got me to Waitrose was the free newspaper.

See lots of stuff reduced and empty slots on shelves - bit depressing really.

(TBH I was expecting the 'free' newspaper to disappear or reduce - how can a store give away a £4 newspaper on a £20-30 shop plus discounts and free coffee, free mag monthly, free weekly own paper?

My weekly shop is tomorrow, so thanks for preparing me for my inevitable disappointment. It certainly was good while it lasted - just surprised at how long it took them. But I suspected changes might be coming once they recently introduced the ability to reselect different vouchers on the app.
I’m not sure how their till systems work, so you might be lucky and it may not be enforced in every store yet. I don’t know though.

Also, if you try to use a voucher and it is rejected, you lose the voucher. There isn’t the option to re-select, it just disappears.

After today's shop - I can confirm that the presence of the correct item(s) still was not being enforced by their systems when using the waitrose app vouchers. I was able to use a £2 + £1.50 voucher on one app, and a £1.50 + £1 voucher on the second app (2 small under £10 shops). If it matters, I use their handheld scanners and self-checkouts.

So, for me, nothing has changed yet.

Ahh so glad to hear it’s still working for you!

We recently had new self checkouts installed, and the change happened just after that. Neither self checkouts or human tills will accept vouchers for non-purchased items.
  • Shopped on Saturday and a 'free' Guardian has been reduced to £1.80 coupon.  Must admit Waitrose is not my main shop so it might be associated with spend and those who spend more may still get free newspaper.

tbh thinking about ditching Waitrose - JL cc is a rip off and products can be more expensive and lately shelves have been empty of what I would buy there.

Has anyone tried this recently following the change in t&c’s on the 18/10?

Used to get the free paper until the system was amended a year or so ago when it dropped off my app. My partner does still get the freebie so often this will mean pushing our shop through in two parts so we could both use sets of offers. However must admit that’s not often given the stuff we’re offered nowadays.

This week I got twice as many as usual, some ending today and some ending tomorrow.  I am assuming those ending today are the new type as the till took a while to process when I scanned them - it appeared it was actually checking what I'd bought against a database, rather than just taking money off the whole transaction.  Between this and the T&Cs change I'm pretty confident they will only work on the actual products stated now.
