Halifax Mortgage Underwriters

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone with a Halifax mortgage could help. My FTB mortgage application is currently at underwriting stage. I went through L&C brokers for my deal and they told me that Halifax were working on 5 working days currently. Today is the 5th working day. (I know I'm being impatient and I still have time).
Initially I was putting down a 5% deposit but after speaking to my MA, we changed this to 10% as the lender would be more comfortable.
My application was submitted July 17th.
3 hard searches appeared on my credit file from the Halifax on the 17th July - not sure if these hard searches happened a few days earlier as I was getting my AiP.
I went on holiday and was waiting for a physical copy of my bank statement to send to Halifax for proof of address (they already had my last 3 bank statements - the online version). They had the rest of my documents and proceeded with the house valuation which came back fine.
I was able to send my proof of address on Monday 31st July and the documents were sent to the underwriter.
I was told on the 1st August that Halifax were working on 5 working days from then and my case manager would be in touch.
I know I have the rest of the day, but I am worried that I won't hear anything. No one has contacted me for additional documents or queries. Has anyone been told 5 working days in the past and then it's been longer?

oh gosh...
relax, honestly. go and do something else. work, cook, poop, walk, cycle, don't wait for an update for such a trivial matter. if you're already stressing and "panicking", you won't like conveyancing at all.0 -
Be fine, halifax dont tend todo valuations if not happy.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.1

My solicitors have been great at keeping in touch and updating me on searches. It's the mortgage offer part which is stressing me out. I went for a mortgage on my own initially, not realising different lenders have different criteria. I'm applying on my own but my partner will be living with me. The first mortgage lender declined the application, despite my credit history and affordability being fine, because his credit history is a mess. I couldn't understand because he wasn't going on the mortgage or declaring a financial interest in the house.
That's when I went to L&C, explained everything and they found me a deal with Halifax and said that they were happy with my situation and wouldn't consider my partner living there as an issue.
I think it's because I've heard the words 'rejected' before, I'm just wound up in knots.
You're right though. I do need to stop hitting refresh on my portal.0 -
Thanks. I do keep trying to keep this in mind. Plus the fact they did the valuation after they'd done my credit checks.chanz4 said:Be fine, halifax dont tend todo valuations if not happy.0 -
You shouldn't be instructing solicitors to be doing any real work until you have the mortgage offer agreed. It will be abortive costs if you can't secure a mortgage offer.neapolitan_girl93 said:johnhenstock said:oh gosh...

Halifax are one of the faster lenders to consider cases. We had our decision back in less than 24 hours but our case was very straight forward. It doesn't sound as though your case is as straight forward.
Just try and forget about the application and do something else to take your mind off it.
Getting the mortgage offer is the easy part of the process!!0 -
