I have been overpaid. tax credits by £2282. How do I go about paying this back? Will they accept £50 a month or will they want all my surplus income? Please advise....

When I was over paid they said what can you afford I said £5 as a joke they accepted it, no proof needed at all, they have access to income etc.I have Dyslexia which is a learning difficulty that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling so some post may not make sense.0

Absolutely. Ours was over £3k and I offered £50pm repayment, which was readily accepted. Remember there is no interest on this ‘debt’, so just phone them up and offer what you can afford. They’ll want to set up a direct debit but you can choose the date it comes out.0

Just to say oh pants, especially if you didn't know you were being overpaid. Yep I've had a reasonable agreement with them to repay overpayments for six months or so. Initially many years ago they used to just take a huge chunk but in recent times it's been far easier to agree a set amount per month on a repayment planPM22 said:I have been overpaid. tax credits by £2282. Thanks everyone, my claim has ended long ago. I'm surprised it's taken this long for them to contact me. I'll offer £10 a month and tell PayPlan. Thanks again....0

I've long thought that a system that has built in overpayments that require to be clawed back is intrinsically flawed. Glad you've got a solution. BiB xDF
