MTD (for VAT only) annoyance - anything FREE, as in really FREE?

in Cutting tax
A few months ago I jumped through this latest innovation in irritation devised by the HMRC.
I signed up with something called "ANNA". This involved downloading an .xlsx and filling in the boxes and then uploading it each quarter.
I was under the impression this was FREE, as in really FREE. Now I learn the *@!*s are planning to charge £3.50 next time I submit.
As a point of principle I don't pay lazy tw*ts for the stupid uploading of a file.
So I've signed up for something called quickfile.co.uk. Does anyone know whether this is genuinely free (absolutely the only service I need is uploading these effing VAT forms)? Or if not, does anyone know of one which is truly FREE, as in FREE?
Thanks

Apparently so, if you meet the criteria:

You aren't really paying for the uploading of a file, but rather their software development costs.1 -
Thanks. In fact you're misguided: I'm not paying for their crap, haven't ever, and won't ever. You can though.0

But, if the issue is you think the software is overpriced for what it is, you clearly don't value the effort put into the software development. In that case why not why not write your own?
Plus, you're not going to win any friends with that attitude. In future, if you just want to come here and rant, let us know and we won;t bother to respond.0
