Job offer change

Options
I recently applied for a job posted on the internal job board where I have worked for 13 years. No salary or benefits were mentioned.

during the process my boss confirmed by text the salary + car allowance.

I was offered the job by email which stated the salary + car allowance however HR have since sent an email stating they were wrong about the car allowance and that due to my band I am
not entitled to it.

is this legal? Do I have any recourse to demand they are obliged to stick to the offer?

thanks

Have you accepted/started the job (or signed a contract that included it) ?

Was your boss the hiring manager (i.e. is it in the same area) ?

Would you still take the job without car allowance ? Or would you return to current job ?

Never easy when employers change the rules part way through a process but if they're adamant it's not available and you've not started/nothing signed then you've not got much leverage
  • Hey,

my Boss was the hiring Manager but salary/benefits obviously dictated by HR.

Questionable - all though it is a big payrise I had factored in the car allowance. It's definitely left a sour taste in my mouth as the reaction from the company has been nonchalant.

    no I haven't accepted/signed anything yet

    In the real world, no.

Certainly not if you still have the option of staying in your current post on your current terms.
